I am a self-taught artist who paints in a stylised realist way.
Working in a variety of mediums I am particularly passionate about oils. For me the challenge of working with oils has improved my technique and helped develop my painting.
I enjoy painting on a large scale because with larger pieces I can work with both the detail that you have in smaller pieces as well as creating an instant impact when the viewer first sees the work. This result is a painting that allows the viewer to project their own feelings for the scene. It’s a documentitive approach but one that looks for an emotional reaction not a rational response.
I draw inspiration from locations I have specifically visited for reference or places I come across in my travels. Either way the subjects have usually caught my eye in an instant and I feel I would like to explore them further on a deeper level.
Once I’ve chosen the subject I like to paint certain aspects that I feel will make the best impact and composition in the painting. Parts that especially interest me as the painter because of their form or the way the light plays off them.
